  2. Really enjoyed this week’s podcast and kudos to your cohost. Enjoyed his weigh in and the perspective he brought to the table! One parting comment on the topic of trying to take a white glove approach without bias to interpretation of any body of creativity, be it writing, painting, music, etc. I think this concept is two-fold flawed. First, I do not believe that it is possible to actually remove bias, personal reference, experience, etc. out of the equation. We are human and our opinions, impressions and dissections of any situation or work, etc. is always going to be defined at least to some degree by who we are and what life we have lived. There’s no way to discount it. Because of that, I think that there is no possible way to conclude concisely what the true, factual and pure intent is of any body of work.
    Second, I think that the entire point of creative output and value other than the obvious outlet it provides the creator is that it (writing, painting, music, etc.) will mean one thing to the creator and can mean something different to each and every observer of the work. That’s what I’ve always found so powerful and profound about creative works. Each individual experiencing a body of art will see, hear, absorb something different and their take-away and impressions will be subject to the lives they have lived. I would not want that to change. I remember in English we were doing a poetry section and the teacher (honors English) asked a guy in my class what he thought that the poem meant. He gave a very detailed feedback that actually had a great correlation to the work, but one that was not what I had taken from it. The teacher replied immediately and in a very annoyed voice, “That is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the point of this poem”. I raised my hand and said, “With all due respect, how do YOU know what the poem means? You are not in the head of the poet in the moment in which he wrote it, so how would you or anyone else know for that matter what the poem means?” I think the fact that each person can take something different from the artwork in whatever form is the very point of it.
